Thomas Taylor McCreath was born on 7 August 1883 at Girvan.

He married Anne Gaunt on 4 December 1916. His occupation was given  as ‘East India Merchant. Rangoon Burma, India)

He joined the firm of Steel Brothers in Ayr and went to Burma in 1906. He was made General Manager of Attock Oil Co., Rawalpindi in 1919. In 1926, he was promoted to become a director of Steel Brothers, transferring to their London office. In due course, he became Chairman of Attock Oil Ltd.,  a public company quoted on the London stock exchange.

The Glasgow Herald of 28 July 1961 reports the following from the 49th Annual General Meeting of The Attock Oil Company Limited  held  at Winchester House, Old Broad Street, London, EC 2.

Mr Armour McGilvray, the chairman, presided. The following is his statement which had been circulated with the report and accounts for the year ended 31st December, I960:

“It is with the deepest regret I have to record the sudden death of Mr Thomas Taylor McCreath as the result of an accident. Mr McCreath had been associated with your Company since its inception. He was its first General Manager in the East, became Manager in London, then a Director and finally your Chairman from 1945 until his death on 5th March, 1961”.

Mr McCreath’s wise counsel and knowledge of the oil industry will be greatly missed by all of us”.

Thomas and Anne lived in Crickets Hill, Weybridge, Surrey

Thomas and Anne had two daughters:

Sheila Margaret McCreath who married Gordon O. Peake in 1941

Jean E McCreath married William H. Brinkley in 1943. Jean and William had a daughter, Sheila Brinkley.
