Andrew John McCreath married Lesley Joan Massie in Aberdeen on 8 August 1991. They have two children, David Andrew James McCreath and Eilidh Niamh McCreath. Before retiral, Andrew worked as Director of IT at Robert Gordon’s University, Aberdeen, whose website provided the following biography:

Originally from Edinburgh, Andrew moved to Aberdeen to study Botany at the University of Aberdeen, graduating with a BSc in 1978. After a short period of research at St Andrews University, where he was awarded an MSc, Andrew started a career in computing with the NCR Corporation in Dundee. After 4 years in Fife, Andrew returned to Aberdeen and has held a number of positions both in IT companies in the Aberdeen area and in industry. Notably, Andrew spent 11 years with Arjo Wiggins where he was responsible for building up a complete set of IT and process monitoring systems to support the manufacturing operation in a local Paper Mill. Before joining the Robert Gordon University in November 1999, Andrew worked for SAIC, an American based global science and technology company, where he was responsible for providing application systems support across the UK for BP Amoco and other clients.

Nationally, Andrew is a member of HEIDS (Higher Education IT Directors Scotland), and prior to the reorganisation of JISC (Joint Information Systems Committee) was a member of the JISC Audit Committee and Convenor of the JISC Infrastructure and Resources Committee. He has been a Director of ScotlandIS – the Scottish association for IT and Media Companies, Director and Chairman of Viscom Ltd, a media company providing interactive multimedia resources to the offshore aviation industry and founding Director and Chairman of AbMAN Ltd – a consortium of institutions in Grampian with responsibility for running the regional network which connects to the national JANET network and the Internet.

Andrew is married and has two children. His free time is spent mostly with the family, looking after the garden and actively involved with the Church, but when time permits he enjoys reading, travelling and walking.”
